Active Networking Equipment

What is Active Networking Equipment?

Networking equipment is special hardware devices used to connect various servers, PCs, application terminals and other nodes to each other to form a data network in a local area network, a metropolitan area network or a wide area network. Common network devices include; switches, routers, firewalls, bridges, hubs, gateways, VPN servers, network interface cards (NICs), wireless access points (WAPs), modems, 5G base stations, optical transceivers, optical transceivers, optical cables, etc.

Networking Devices

Router

A router works at the network layer in the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection Model) architecture, which means it can switch and route data packets over multiple networks. Routers do this by exchanging protocol-specific information in relatively independent networks. Compared with bridges, routers can not only filter and separate network traffic, connect network branches, but also access more information in packets. And it is used to improve the transmission efficiency of data packets.

Switch

Switching is a technical term for sending the information to be transmitted to the corresponding route that meets the requirements by manual or automatic methods according to the needs of transmitting information at both ends of the communication. A switch in a broad sense is a device that completes the information exchange function in a communication system. In the computer network system, the concept of exchange is proposed to improve the shared work mode. The switch has a high bandwidth back bus and internal switch fabric. All ports of the switch are connected to this back bus. After the control circuit receives the data packet, the processing port will look up the address comparison table in the memory to determine the NIC (network card) of the destination MAC (hardware address of the network card).
